Monika Loewy

Monika is a psychodynamic therapist specialising in anxiety, body, identity, and relationship difficulties, and unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns.

From Monika:

Therapy with me provides a safe and non-judgemental space where you are free to find and express feelings and thoughts. It may involve changing unhelpful thoughts, behaviours, habits, and relationship patterns, working with more specific disorders, or focussing on a specific goal or difficulty. Therapy can offer a calm and supportive place to feel seen, rebuild, and gain perspective and clarity. This takes place through me listening, engaging with, and reflecting back what you bring, so we can understand more about your feelings and behaviours. In learning more about where they are rooted and how they show up and recur, we work together to help you to feel better.

I have worked with anxiety, body/identity difficulties, insecurity or confusion about self, decision making, intrusive/obsessive thoughts, apathy; relationships, including, communication difficulties, confrontation, sex and sexuality, break ups and divorce, parenting difficulties, job loss, bereavement. I have also worked with eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, anger management, trauma, flashbacks, abuse (sexual, emotional, physical), psychotic disorders, depression, loss, addiction, suicidal thoughts, ADHD.

My approach is founded in Psychodynamic thought - meaning therapy is interested in the roots of problems and feelings, and in changing patterns. I also work with more focussed issues (i.e. a particular decision, relationship problem, habit, goal) in which case therapy may include practical skills and CBT.

I have an MSc from Birkbeck in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, am a BACP registered psychotherapist, and have a PhD in English Literature and Psychoanalysis from Goldsmiths. I'm originally from California, USA, but have been in England since 2008. I'm creative and supportive, but will challenge you, and welcome all thoughts and feelings.
