Matt is a transpersonal psychotherapeutic counsellor and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
From Matt:
Hello, I’m Matt. Before I trained as a therapist, I supported adults and young people through complex physical and psychological challenges. I have worked as a mentor with young adults excluded from mainstream education, and as a grief companion attached to a hospice.
I place great emphasis on working relationally, which means we work together in the here and now, with a view of how your past life is affecting you and your current relationships. How our relationship develops, and supports you, is at the heart of my work. I follow the Ethical Framework of the BACP that protects both clients and therapists.
What might lead you to therapy?
I think that being human can be a mysterious and unsettling business, and that most of us can benefit from personal therapy at some point. There are times when your voice needs to be heard in a safe and supportive place.
You may be experiencing a particularly tough period in your life, where relationships are unsatisfying and you feel unloved, with a sense of pain and isolation and a longing for more. You may feel a deep grief or sense of loss, without a clear idea about its origin. In our work together, I offer you a committed, non-judgmental relationship, a safe space for us to explore your story from a deeper place, and an opportunity to reflect on meaning, beyond everyday identities. Creating and maintaining fulfilling and loving relationships is something I think we all aspire to.
Our work together will look at patterns that have developed over your life and how they manifest currently. Sometimes, we carry shame for those parts of ourselves that we find unacceptable.
Some life experiences and memories can sit deeply in our bodies, and at times I might suggest using 'Focusing,' body memory work, for us to explore some of the more stuck and difficult areas.
Our initial contact is via email. If I can find you a space, and you wish to go ahead, I will email you a questionnaire to complete and return before we meet. The first session is a time for you to ask any questions and for us to discuss your needs and expectations. It’s also a time for us to start to get to know each other and decide how we might work together.
I work with individuals and couples and usually respond to all inquiries within 24 hours.
