Lucas Whitworth

Lucas is a BACP registered Integrative therapist, drawing from Existential, Psychodynamic and Humanistic approaches.

From Lucas:

My personal view of therapy is that there is no single approach that works for everyone, which is why I chose to train in Integrative Psychotherapy. I work relationally, meaning that I am interested in how we relate to ourselves and others. These relationships might be from our past, or our present. Often it is both. We will seek to understand fixed behavioural and relational patterns so that new possibilities can emerge.

Before training in psychotherapy, I spent 10 years working in the music industry, first as a touring musician and then within a record label. Music was a valuable outlet and means of expression for me; I maintain a belief in its extraordinary powers of healing, communication and catharsis. When I began my own therapy journey, I discovered that therapy too had these powers. But, uniquely, it also provides the opportunity for meaning-making through dialogue with a trusted other. This is the space that I seek to create in my practice.

I have experience working with people in crisis, short-term solution focused counselling and long-term exploratory psychotherapy. This experience has come from my work with the NHS, other mental health providers and the Samaritans. We can discuss what brings you to therapy and work on an agreement that suits your current needs.

My work has included depression, anxiety, relationship problems, bereavement, domestic abuse, parenting, low self-esteem, perfectionism, substance abuse, loneliness, creative blocks and reaching creative potential.
