Ilaria Calussi is BACP Accredited Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Training and Qualifications
With a diverse and comprehensive background in psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and education, I bring a holistic and integrative approach to mental health and family therapy. My professional journey includes training in Gestalt Psychotherapy, Systemic Family Therapy at King’s College London,Trauma-Informed CBT, alongside specializations in Therapeutic Play, Autism Awareness, and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. This broad spectrum of expertise equips me to address a wide range of psychological and emotional challenges faced by individuals and families.
Clinical Experience
Throughout my career, I have worked in various respected community settings and organisations, including Family Action, The Children’s Society, and Mind. One of my key roles was with Place2Be, a leading children's mental health charity, where I managed school-based mental health services and contributed to the MA Counselling Children in Schools programme. My work extended to leading Hackney’s integrated Children and Families Clinical service, where I supported children, families, foster carers, and professionals involved in the care of children who have experienced developmental trauma. I currently work at the National Autism Unit at Bethlem Royal Hospital (NHS) and continue to offer therapeutic services through my private practice, supporting individuals across the lifespan with a variety of psychological difficulties.
Who I can help
My private practice focuses on helping families and individuals navigate complex relationships and psychological issues, with a particular emphasis on attachment theory, systemic practice, and creative therapy. I also work extensively with people dealing with developmental trauma, stress, and identity issues related to gender, sexuality, and neurodiversity.
In addition to my therapeutic work, I am an Associate Lecturer at The Open University within the School of Psychology and Counselling. I share my expertise with a broader audience through teaching, supervision, and leading workshops for professionals in the mental health field. I also provide clinical supervision and training for practitioners working with children, families, and neurodiverse populations.
Therapeutic Approach
My approach integrates multiple therapeutic disciplines, including neuroscience, intersectionality, and trauma-informed care, to provide a comprehensive framework for healing and personal development.
I adopt a systemic and intersectional approach to therapy, recognizing that mental health cannot be understood in isolation from social and community contexts. By considering the broader influences of social and economic inequalities, my practice is grounded in a deep understanding of how external stressors impact mental health.
Drawing from my personal experiences of solo parenting, neurodivergence, and queer relationships, I offer an empathetic and down-to-earth therapeutic approach.
My work is focused on empowering individuals and families to overcome their challenges, with a commitment to fostering strong connections within their communities. At the heart of my practice is the belief that by working together within these social systems, we can achieve lasting positive change.
